BGCS supporting Rwanda football project

23/06/2025

We are very proud to be supporting the Scottish Football for Rwanda project this year.

This programme is particularly close to BGC Scotland with our current Girls Coach Clare Docherty directly involved in this years trip.

Clare has also been joined on the trip to Rwanda by former BGC Scotland Internationals Bella Watson and Layla Dailly.

We donated 3 sets of “loved and previously worn” BGCS kit and Clare helped distribute these yesterday at the Skol stadium In Nzove to a Girls football team called ‘Runner up Academy’.

Clare Docherty commented “the girls and team didn’t have proper kit or equipment before today. It’s also one of the very few girls teams in the whole country and it’s their first ever full set of strips

Scottish Football for Rwanda is volunteer led  charity who offer unforgettable experience to anyone volunteering.

The 10-day trip sees volunteers join 6 experienced Scottish youth coaches head to the capital Kigali and the Western District of Karongi.

Spending valuable time delivering football sessions to Rwandan kids of all ages, gender and ability, from primary school and village U17 teams to Premier League Academies.

They also spend time at community projects such as Batsinda Street Rescue and primary schools, plus visiting several genocide memorials.
